Digitalization of Water Cycle Management
AQUA3 is the project presented by HIDROGEA together with AGUAS DE MURCIA, to participate in the Aid Program for improving water cycle efficiency, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. It arises from the need to modernize water infrastructures in the municipalities of Alcantarilla, Abanilla and Murcia to address issues of efficiency and sustainability, as well as to adapt to changing climate conditions and increasing water stress. In the context of the water cycle digitalization PERTE, the importance of integrating digital solutions and advanced technologies to optimize water management is recognized.
Additionally, the project seeks to address issues of transparency and citizen participation in water management. The implementation of information systems will not only improve the operability and maintenance of infrastructures, but will also allow citizens and public administrations to have more direct and clear access to information about water use and management.
This ambitious project has a budget of more than 11.7 million euros and will be executed thanks to the aid from the second call for grants (2023) for digitalization projects of the Urban Water Cycle, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union NextGenerationEU.

Priority Actions
The AQUA3 project comprises a total of 49 actions, distributed among the municipalities of Abanilla (15 actions), Alcantarilla (12 actions) and Murcia (22 actions).
Broadly speaking, the execution of the project will involve carrying out the following tasks:
- Within the scope of type A actions, 3 municipal emergency plans for drought situations will be drafted, 3 comprehensive sanitation system management plans and 2 plans to promote the use of reclaimed water.
- Within the scope of type B actions, the water supply and sewerage networks of the three municipalities will be sensorized, to improve sanitary control, reduce NRW and control the flows circulating through the sewerage networks and their quality. The influents and effluents of WWTPs will also be sensorized, as well as discharge points, and WWTP operation will be optimized.
- Finally, within the scope of type C actions, a transparency platform will be created and a total of 6 digital tools will be incorporated to optimize management.
